Selecting a Web Site Designer

There are a lot of people creating Web pages and putting them up on the Internet.

Are you about to choose the right people for the job?

Are the people you are considering to create your Web site experienced in communications? Do they have sufficient experience in the creation and use of graphic images to convey what you need to convey about your products or services to potential customers? Will it be done in a way that will be effective for your company? And do they understand the unique features and requirements of the Web?

The role of a Graphic Designer, as we have always seen it, is to create solutions to communications needs, whatever those needs are. The goal of those solutions is to generate solid sales leads and the promotion of the image you wish your company's to have in the market place.

An experienced Graphic Designer can do the job of communicating your message in printed sales literature. But they also need to understand how to create images and design pages specifically for the Web in order to make your Web site work for you.

Just as a Graphic Designer who does not understand photography, typography, and printing can not produce printed literature that communicates effectively - so it follows that a person who simple knows the technical side of creating printed sales literature can not necessarily communicate what you need to communicate. The same can be said about Web Site Design and Development.

Knowing the technical process is only one part of the equation. The second part of the equation for an effective Web Site is understanding how to identify your communications needs, and then create images and designs that provide solutions, all within the parameters of how the Web functions. And the final part of the equation is the promotional efforts that cause your new site to be used effectively. This is also a communications challenge that an experienced Graphic Designer is capable of working with you to solve.

For more information, see the article "What does a Graphic Designer do, and why hire one?" It is on our web site for Slaughter & Slaughter, Inc. The theme of this entire site is "Graphic Designers create solutions to communications needs." All of the portfolio samples shown there are discussed in terms of how they helped our clients solve those needs.
