The orchids were painted from a slide I took at the Cincinnati Krohn Conservatory Orchid display. The image of the orchids was painted in oil on canvas, with the graphite outlines of the background. Then it was digitized for the computer, and the background was redone. I wanted to show the sculputral quality of the orchid petals.

In this way I was able to add a "painterly" effect for the orchids with smooth gradations for the leaves and background.
